Sukkot

In Sukkot you shall dwell seven days, every citizen in Israel they shall dwell in Sukkot, in order that your generations shall know, that in Sukkot did I cause the children of Israel to dwell, when I brought them forth from the land of Egypt.. (Leviticus Chapter 23)

This morning I dropped in to see the Sukka which is erected for the day at Holy Corner. The Feast of Sukkot is more often said in English as the Feast of Booths. It commemorates the years that the Jews spent in the desert, and the fragility of the way that they lived. This Sukkah (booth) was built this morning - you have to be able to see through the roof so that you are able to see God's heaven. It is built from plant material. Traditionally, Jews would sleep in this shelter for seven days and take their meals there to remind them of the wandering in the desert.

One of the interesting things about the Jewish faith is the way that they "act out" what they believe, which helps their young to learn. Tradition is at the heart of their religion. This is Norman, admiring the newly erected Sukkah.
