Catbells Cairn
Today's glorious weather drew me to the Newlands Round. At the summit of Catbells I found a brand new cairn with a toposcope. The radiating lines indicate the direction to notable fells and it is a copy from Wainwright's own diagram, taken from the Catbells chapter of the Pictorial Guide to the North Western Fells.
The inscription around the outside reads:
"Scenes of great beauty unfold on all sides and they are scenes in depth to a degree not usual" - Alfred Wainwright.
