Portugal - Odiaxere - Day 5
After a busy day yesterday, and indeed since we arrived in Lisbon early Sunday, it's been all go, so today, our first in the Quinta, we decided to stay in the grounds and chill out.
After a lovely breakfast, which is laid out just along from our apartments and eaten at tables outside our front door, it was some pool time. Boys were desperate to get in and play. Laura Stewart and I went for provisions into the Dolce Pinge supermarket on the outskirts of Lagos. Was impressed with the machine where you can buy fresh orange juice - throw the oranges in the top of the machine and you fill up the bottles from the freshly squeezed . Nice.
Back at the Quinta, We got acquainted with Milo and Cassie who both are really playful and Ben and I went to feed the two Vietnamese pot bellied pigs and had a game of table tennis and football. Had a seat in the cabana in the shade.
Decided that we would have a little drive into Lagos for a wander and we walked through the old town and stopped for a refreshment.
There was an issue the night before with Laura as when they arrived there seemed to be some mouse activity in her and Dave's bedroom, as in it had shredded the pillowslip. That was all cleaned and changed and pellets to kill it put down. Seems as if that didn't work as laura woke up during the night with the mouse on her arm!! She then slept on the sofa in the lounge area.....
She decided she wasn't sleeping in there with the mouse still on the loose, so Stewart said he would and she would sleep with me. He popped into the bedroom to check on it pulled the covers back and came face to face with the mouse!! He went to alert Jill and the two of them decided time was up for this mouse and they would kill it themselves. Dave and I watched the action from he window outside which involved getting the bedding out of the room, mattress lifted and base tilted on side. They initially had a pan each to whack it but when Kill stood on its tail, with open toed sandals on, it was reaching back trying to bit her so she let go. She had the idea to spray it with bug killer so that was more successful as it was spaced out when Stewart then got it into a plastic bag. The mouse had brought in figs from the tree outside and had stored them under the bed, obviously making this room it's winter home!
So with the room stinking of bug killer the gang were put in the penthouse suite which happened to be empty. This was Jill and Julio's own place they decant out of for the season into a shack in the grounds. It was a lovely flat and the gang stayed there for two nights!
After all the excitement we travelled into the village for a spit roasted chicken carry out to eat in the penthouse (otherwise known as Lanterna).
Water park tomorrow!
