Horse-Drawn...
...Viking boat -- the one I blipped in September last year, when it was being built.
My woodworking club members were invited to the launching today at Bowman Bay, in Deception Pass State Park. Cynthia wasn't excited about going with me -- until I mentioned that draft horses would be involved!
I won't keep you in suspense -- the first extra shows the boat was safely launched and it did float, though it was a long and complicated process.
I don't know how they got the boat onto the trailer at the boatyard, but it was hauled to the parking lot by a pickup truck. The horse team was then hitched up to haul the trailer down to the beach.
The second extra shows the pickup truck being roped to the rear of the trailer to stop it from running into the horses on the descent. (It's also a "Where's Cynthia?" photo.)
The third extra shows how the boat was lifted off the trailer at the launching ramp and guided down the ramp on logs -- the traditional way -- no machinery involved! The rate of descent was controlled by another group gripping a rope tied to the uphill end of the boat.
The fourth extra is for horse lovers.
