We had the opening reception for our photo show tonight. A decent crowd, and very enthusiastic. Our umbrella title is Different Directions, a term that covers just about anything and gives us the freedom to explore various styles and techniques. Here's part of the press release:

This is the fifth annual collaboration of the Different Directions women, and the group continues to offer a varied and stimulating exploration of photographic styles, from fact to fancy, local to global, color to black and white. United by an enthusiasm for the printed image, a hefty dose of good humor, and an outlook that encourages exploration and growth, these artists do indeed move in different directions, while valuing standards of good craftsmanship and style. IMBY, a series of colorful images and thoughtful commentary distilled from posts in (SoozaDay's) daily on-line photo journal, is a loving and intimate portrayal of the abundant life in her backyard garden, juxtaposed with text from the daily blog. Her fascination for insects and flowers is evident in the tender observation of a leaf after a storm, or the close-up of a delicate pair of mating damselflies; keen attention to detail draws the viewer into a very personal and intimate relationship with the natural world. In dramatic contrast, In a Glass Box, a collection of black and white images of mannequins presented by G, explores the interplay between manufactured fantasy environments and the often unwittingly surreal urban landscape. Reflections in display windows reveal unexpected layers of daily life, while the mannequins themselves engage us with their silent voices, perhaps commenting on our consumerism and the manipulative power of advertising. SH's captivating images in iPhoneography celebrate a hip new technology, and reveal some of the magical creative potential of the iPhone, where images can be taken, processed in many different ways, and shared instantly -- all from one very portable device. Her photographs of architectural elements, cleverly interpreted with various iPhone apps, offer a fascinating look at the possibilities of this exciting tool.

So you see, we do move in different directions, and somehow manage to complement each other's work very nicely.
