Crazy About Birds

Geese

Quite a large flock of geese hangs about in the hayfield where we begin our walk. They shift between there and a farm pond that's just about a quarter of a mile down the road. Lately when I've seen them on/at the pond there's been a big *mutt* goose with them. S/he's likely the offspring of a Canada goose and a domestic goose, or perhaps there's some other kind of wild goose (greylag?) involved. I took this photo this morning as much as anything in an effort to see if s/he was with them. I don't see him. I'll post an extra that shows him at the pond. S/he's the big grey/white one with the orange bill on the left. Most likely he (or she) is sterile, but although very large, s/he might be able to fly and go where his Canada friends go. Sometimes these mutts are so heavy bodied (like their domestic goose parent) that they can't get off the ground.
