Farewell to Guernsey

It's time to say goodbye to the Channel Islands. This was the view of St. Peter Port as we edged out of the harbour en route for Poole, two weeks after first arriving.

The tall buildings immediately behind the harbour wall were built as warehouses in the days when ships offloaded their cargo right up against the harbour wall. Today these buildings house banks and shops, the main shopping streets running parallel behind the buildings.

Elizabeth College, an independent school for boys can be seen on the skyline (top right). It was founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1563.
