The Little Chapel
At a diminutive 16ft (5m) by 9ft (3m), this tiny chapel is one of Guernsey's top tourist attractions. It is believed to be the world's smallest consecrated church and is decorated with pebbles, shells and broken china. This is the most recent of three chapels built upon this site by Brother Deodat who commenced his original epic creation in 1914. As his project gained public awareness, donations of china came from all over the world.
Because the underlying building was constructed of mud and clay, subsidence has threatened to destroy the chapel. Today, major renovations are underway to strengthen the original structure; any shells and china which have to be removed will be reinstalled in their original patterns.
