Summer is officially over...
Backblip
Quite a productive day today, even got some ironing done.
David and Lola had a great day together. Started off with a lovely walk in the morning then this afternoon Lola played happily in the garden while David completed the sad task of closing down the Gin Palace for the winter. The gin baubles are all stored safely indoors and the Gin Palace is now full of garden furniture. Won't be long till April :-)
This evening we had a special treat of dinner at Andy Murray's hotel, Cromlix House. We had a long weekend there for our 25th wedding anniversary and it was amazing. We've been back for afternoon tea more than once since then and it never disappoints.
This time dinner was on friends of ours. A special bunch of guys who David goes walking with in the Lake District every November.
Last year he'd just arrived and enjoyed the first day when he got the panic stricken call from me telling him that Alan's colitis flare up was so bad, he was being admitted to hospital the following day. David immediately got his things together and headed home, a journey that took six hours due to an accident on the M74 leading to its closure and horrible sleet and fog.
A few days later an envelope arrived in the post from the guys, with a voucher for Cromlix to give us something to look forward to once Alan was well again. We were so touched.
Anyway tonight was the night. We got our glad rags on. Shona came to puppy sit, taxi to Cromlix for us.
Gin cocktail in the lovely bar to start with served with some very delicious amuse-bouche. As tends to be the way when we go out for dinner, we ended up ordering the same thing. Smoked haddock in cream and chive sauce, followed by venison wellington (for two) and for dessert, gingerbread and pear soufflé with cinnamon ice cream. All of it absolutely delicious.
Back home and Lola and Shona had had a lovely time together (and Lola had behaved herself!)
A really lovely day :D
