rush hour (or making up for lost time)
Following on from yesterday’s moan about lack of blip motivation, I gave myself a bit of a talking to.
And after watching last night’s ‘trust me I’m a doctor’, I decided to see if a bit of mindfulness might do the trick. But according to the programme it only really works if you choose something you actually enjoy doing.
I like playing the guitar and riding my bike - although as of yet I’ve only managed to do these things separately. This morning I played for about half an hour and then rode my bike.
Now mindfulness is meant to clear your head of rubbish so that you only think about the thing you’re actually engaged with - ‘in the moment’ as the experts would call it. Guitar playing is good for this, because I’m learning some new chords (with numbers and little words like ‘augmented’) and so there’s no chance of my mind drifting off to other things, as I really have to concentrate on what I’m doing.
The bike is different though. I start off OK, just thinking about pedalling, but it’s not long before my head is full of blip ideas, involving the bike, Anniemay’s car and a lot of faffing. And suddenly I’m racing along (in my head) desperate to finish so I can get my camera. And then to the computer to see how many effects I can use at the same time.
So there you have it - mindfulness, as aid to photography.
