Shaggy ink cap

Driving along the Grouse road on Sunday I came to a screeching halt when I saw these absolutely huge Shaggy ink caps Coprinus comatus right beside the road.
I love Shaggy ink caps, they are such interesting fungi, raising up out of the ground, opening then gradually dissolving into a thick black gloup which spreads the spores....really like something from a horror film!
In this shot (apart from my precariously parked car) you can see one fruiting body at it's absolute best, and one just a black drippy disc, tomorrow they will both be going over.
The Shaggy ink cap is common in these parts, (although not always as perfect as this specimen) and said to be edible when young - although having seen the gooey mess I don't think I will be trying them any time soon!
