WINNIE

Was born Edith Winifred Hutton on the 1st November 1887. Happy Birthday!

In 1912 she married George Heddle from Rosehill, a farmstead about a mile north of Stromness, Orkney. She was the loveliest person you could possibly imagine. It was Winnie who first took me to Orkney when I was eight years old & she brought me up as my mother was obliged to earn a living as best she could cooking for hospitals, schools & hotels...

Winnie was the glue that held the family together - we all called her "Pooh" on account of her addiction to honey!
