What happens if you don't pierce them

Chestnuts are one of my favourite tastes but I wasn't sure if I could eat them any more.

I bought some. Himself was being helpful but obviously missed one. The speckled tray is solid black with specks of exploded chestnut. There is speckling in the oven too.

The good news is I (mostly) managed to eat some.
