Xanthorrhoea is a genus of 30 species of flowering plants endemic to Australia and I think this may be X. australis.
A number grow in our street and the flowers are appearing on the east side first, blooming as the sun rises and warms that face first.
I once (without camera sadly ) watched as parrots went bonkers hovering around the spike (and these can grow up to 2 metres ) but today it is just the bees.
