Fall

Not everything that falls in autumn is a leaf. It's probably a body feather but form what I am not sure. I would guess a larger or medium sized  bird .The feeders have been visited by a lot of chickadees, titmice , finches and blue jays recently. The red belly wood pecker made an appearance for the first time yesterday  which means I had better get the suet out. The next week is going to be rainy with temps higher than normal for this time of the year , probably in the 50's. While it makes for a pleasant fall it is creating problems for migrating butterflies. I have not seen any monarchs in a few weeks fortunately but I read that there are concerns they were late in many areas due to warmer temps and winds blowing in the wrong direction that may result in them not reaching their wintering grounds.
