Newcastle Blipmeet

Today's blipmeet was organised by shygirl whose slightly scurrilous account shows a wonderful collage from the day.

Five of us met at Newcastle Central Station. Two were in one place and three in another, but we managed to coincide in the end. The other three were dollydoug, inukshukne and 60plus.

Coffee was consumed and photos taken before we moved off to the Discovery Museum. Here we joined the families at the end of half term as we explored the different floors. It's a very lively place with some excellent displays.

One of the volunteers grabbed (not literally) three of us to see the temporary propellor made from various bits of a ship to replace the one that fell off mid voyage. The ship and crew made it to Barbados in the end. It was a good story and well told.

On the ground floor a family asked shygirl to take their photo. We got chatting and heard that they are from Afghanistan and have escaped from the war there. The parents are not yet allowed to work but are studying and the children are in school. They were very positive about living here and I said I would put them on Blip tonight.

After the Blipmeet, I went off the Northern Stage for Ballet Florent's rendition of Rumpelstiltskin. There were a few local children in the cast, playing sheep, lambs and children. They were very good. The whole production was excellent and the audience enjoyed it. Carol Ann Duffy wrote a new text and it has an intesting twist at the end.

Mum has been in bed coughing, but stayed on her own while I went out. She was sorry not to see everyone and to miss the ballet.
