Aperture on Life

The Web

The sun came up through the fog this morning. The spiders had been busy throughout the night and their webs were coated in dew. I couldn't resist this one, hanging between the spent Cardoon flower heads.

The Cardoons never made a summer blip. The adversities of the weather made for a poor show but, they did look good this morning in their autumnal colours and natural decoration. They are the same species as cultivated artichokes but in their natural state, rather than being selected for size over generations. I cook the buds as I do artichokes and the leaves in the spring when they aren't too bitter. It's an old fashioned plant, little used in the UK but quite delicious.

So late this evening. Too many hours on the phone! It hasn't been the best day of late, but I think I've managed to get something positive out of it!
