A Worrisome Weigh-in

I decided a long time before I gave birth that I would breastfeed our child. In fact, I was determined. Following a very fast labour I had a large bleed where the placenta detached from the uterine wall and bled out which meant my milk was delayed and didn't come in until day 5. Noah lost a hell of a lot of weight between birth and his day 4 weigh in, but this very quick snap shows his day 6 weigh in - he had gained!

The midwife wanted him to gain 100g to avoid us being admitted back into hospital - he had gained 410g. I cannot tell you the relief we all felt - me as a mother for being able to feed my child and him not suffer, Oli because he knew I wouldn't be able to cope with being admitted, and the midwife for Noah's health.

It is slightly out of focus (veeery difficult not to throw the camera and pick up my screaming baby) and I had to edit out a sensitive area of his haha! I love that little face soooooooo much.

Breastfeeding is hard, the first week is near impossible, but the benefits alone make you want to persevere. I was lucky enough to have a ton of support and it's the only reason that Noah remains exclusively breast fed. Huge thank you to all the people who made this weight gain here possible.
