Tree Bumble bee

A recent arrival to the UK (10 years ago) the tree bumble bee Bombus hypnorum has spread rapidly. Although slightly aggressive if you get too near the nest it doesn't appear to be affecting our native bee populations and is an effective pollinator so in general is a welcome newcomer.
This queen was busy nectaring with a lot of other bees (including the much larger B. terestris) on a late flowering shrub in the pleasant autumn sunshine.
