Coyote Wall in Autumn Color

Coyote Wall is a massive (1800 foot/549 meters tall) wall of columnar basalt near on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge near Bingen. It contains a variety of walking paths and bicycle trails. From the trail, one has wonderful views of the anticlines, synclines, and monoclines that make up the geology of the area. From some spots on the trail, there are excellent views of Mt. Hood across the river in Oregon.

Through the middle of this geology runs the Columbia River. Now in autumn, the trees yellow and russet, shine against the greys and browns of the rock with a brilliant blue sky over all. We enjoyed a delightful afternoon walk on this mild, clear day.

The extra shows a view of autumn color and the Columbia River looking west toward Bingen, Washington.
