Irresistable!!

That summer in the west I walked sunrise
to dusk, narrow twisted highways without shoulders,
low stone walls on both sides. Hedgerows
of fuchsia hemmed me in... And I was unafraid,

I couldn't pass this inviting little boreen with its crock of gold at the end could I? I was actually there sort of legitimately. A few weeks ago a couple suddenly arrived unannounced and asked to see 'the photographer!' Errr. I confessed to taking the odd photo and it turned out that they wanted to buy some postcards as I had inadvertently blipped their donkeys. (see here ) A friend had sent them the postcard not knowing it was their donkeys and now they wanted their own copies - 50 of them. Are you with me?? Anyway, they had obviously scrutinised the card from every angle, and worked out exactly where I was standing - and yes, trespass was invovled. So (this is turning into a very rambling story) today I drove up to deliver their cards. They live in a beautiful spot - almost the last house before you hit the mountain, and the road got smaller and smaller and the hedge thicker and thicker and the air more agricultural. This is the original building on their land, now ruined but so picturesque with the fuchsia strewn boreen. They have the cottage next door which they use for holidays, one of the few houses on the peninsula that still has no electricity.

This afternoon I was working and took the children out on a geography field trip to the village to find out about our local community. We went into the two shops(!), made notes, ate ice creams, took photos and had far too much fun - leaving ourselves only 10 minutes to walk the half mile home before school ended!

A great evening last night for TJ's birthday - a sumptuous meal consisting of himself's bruscetta; Claire's bean chilli and Lili's gargantuan carrot cake. We played 6 ferocious games of table tennis and a riotous game of articulate and drank too much wine. Very enjoyable.

Edit: And I've just remembered it national poetry day (or maybe international?) so have added a short excerpt with thanks to Karen Vanderburg
