Large flowered rhododendron
Spent an hour or so at Ilam Gardens with a Nature Photography Society group enjoying the amazing display of azaleas and rhododendrons. There are some historic plants here, as Edgar Stead, who built the original homestead that is now the University of Canterbury Staff Club, was a keen rhododendron breeder, and his collection became world famous.
I don't find rhodos easy to photograph, but I liked this plant with relatively few, very large, flowers.
