NATIONAL POETRY DAY: VOYAGER
His hand on the controls
the Commander sits,
watching someone else's Enterprise;
other people boldly going.
Moving at Warp Factor four,
his memory travels to a time
when the stars seemed within his grasp.
But here, in this dimension,
the ifs are like a shower of meteors
disintegrating as they meet her chilled atmosphere.
If he was younger, stronger.
If they lived where he could see the stars at night.
If the Sun shone more often on their Earth.
If the Universe was different...
then nothing would stand in his way.
He would boldly go and conquer other worlds!
He says she's a Vulcan, too logical, no emotions.
He doesn't know her heart is in the constellations
among the starry trails of those who dared and boldly went before.
Back in the light of the afternoon
he has the Sky at his fingertips
and a Galaxy to enjoy.
This is my response to blouseybrown's challenge:
"It is National Poetry Day on Thursday and the theme is stars. How about showing support by doing a star related blip with a poem you either write yourself or a classic (out of copyright)?"
