National Poetry Day
To celebrate National Poetry Day, an extract of Liz Lochhead's 'A Wee Multitude of Questions for George Wyllie'
Who lives unbowed under the slant of Scottish weather,
loves the white light of stones,
walks on wiry grass
and, feeling the electric earth beneath him,
turns his wide gaze on open sea?
The photograph shows Liz Lochhead with a Wyllie scul?ture, Canary with its foot stuck in a Girder.
She wrote the poem to celebrate George Wyllie's 75th birthday, a great reflection on the man and his work. Later, it became part of the foreword she wrote for Wyllie's own poetry collection.
And, as I put up this journal entry, the P7 pupils over on blipfoto.com/learningcloud, having read it and looked at his scul?tures, are writing their own poetry about the man and his work.
Full circle.
