24th International Festival of Photojournalism

I am going to let you discover this for yourself A Feast of Photography held in the town of Perpignan jus about 50 kilometres north of us just over the French border.

My favourites were the Afrikaner boys being indoctrinated to prepare for a race war, The World Press Photo was as fantastic as ever, but what really stood for me out were the photographs of the all female chain gangs, which illustrated the ugliness that is America.

The plight of the Kurds, the children in China who recycle high tech waste, the child brides of Afghanistan, Nepal, Ethiopia and Yemen and India, girls whose eyes show spirits that died as their childhood dreams were crushed.

It is difficult to retain any faith in humanity when faced with the reality of life as portrayed by these images.

Luckily the joy expressed by this little Burmese girl as she chased soap bubbles blown by a street artist as we walked back to the car, dispelled some of the gloom.
