...to be a grass tree Kingia australis does very well until the flowers appear.
Xanthorrea (the 'proper' grass tree) produces a tall and elegant spear-like flowering spike while Kingia does a sort of wild and wobbly ET impersonation with these cool little bobble heads!
The trunk is not even a trunk but accumulated leaf bases and they grow in height very slowly not more than 1.5cm/year.
This dude would be at least three metres tall so one of the elders of this little pocket of forest at a local golf course!
