Ironically Titled Holiday Day

My Dear Fellows and Dear Princess,

Today was a public holiday in New Zealand - "Labour Day". Apparently it's the nearest Monday to the 22nd October (or something). Officially, it's a celebration of the work ethic, they tell me.

All I know is that it is was hugely ironic in our flat. Here is Jasper, openly mocking the Kiwi tradition in his own way.

p.s. My love affair with Mary Tyler Moore continues. Why did I not realise how funny this show was before now? In today's episode, Mary was having a conversation with Sue-Ann Nivens (Betty White) while Sue-Ann was doing flower arranging.

SUE-ANN: Did you know that Ed was going to give Gloria a baking segment on MY show?
MARY: I didn't know that.
SUE-ANN: And did you know the best time to cut flowers is when the bud is still soft?
MARY: No, I didn't know that either.
SUE-ANN: And did you know that Ed took Gloria out to dinner last night?
MARY: No I didn't know that.
SUE-ANN: And did you know that if you drop a sugar-cube into water, it makes your roses bloom for longer?
MARY: Why do you keep bringing up flowers?
SUE-ANN: Because I'm trying to arrange flowers, Mary. And if I think about flower arranging, I can create this Floral Fantasy. But if I think about Gloria, I just want to cut their smelly little heads right off.

Maybe it is just me, but I laughed for a LONG TIME at that. I love Betty White.
