The Miniaturists
This bloke and I bumped into each other as we were both heading back to our locked bikes down a side-street near the river. We stopped to chat as we realised we were both using German “miniature” cameras.
Miniature? When the forerunners of our kit were designed in the early part of the 20th Century, they were refereed to as “miniature cameras”, as opposed to large format view cameras, and so on.
Of course, 35mm cameras, whatever their design, were effectively classed as small format cameras. Now folk yammer on about full frame, crop frame, and so on. So, there you go.
Anyway, back to the present. He told me he'd spent all morning in the dark room and was just running a film through to use it up. Then he was going home to do some lith printing.
I'm kicking my self, because uncharacteristically, I didn't ask him his name and would have loved to chat more on another day. Note to self: must do better, must try harder...
