At Rizzo's: Antipasto to Die For!
We continued our week of fun and adventures with a trip to one of our favorite restaurants, Rizzo's of Windber. It's the place where my husband's father asked for his mother's hand in marriage quite a few years ago.
We typically make it to Rizzo's about once a year, usually in mid-October to early November, for our wedding anniversary dinner. It's something of a tradition.
We often like to combine a nice hike with a good meal on our little day trips. So first, we went to Clear Shade Wild Area, where we hiked for a couple of hours. Then, our appetites whetted, we went to Rizzo's.
This was the first dish they brought us: the antipasto, which is absolutely to die for! I do not know of anyone who has anything exactly like it.
The dish is a combination of several kinds of lettuce, vegetables, meats, olives, peppers, hard-boiled eggs, and cheeses, all covered in their delectable house dressing (Italian, of course!).
We split the antipasto and then a large spaghetti, all of it accompanied by bread and butter. They even brought us a free dessert, in honor of our special day. And finally, we got a quart of spaghetti sauce with four meatballs in it to go, so we could enjoy Rizzo's treats later, at home.
The soundtrack: Joe Walsh, with Life's Been Good.
