Yuma's house

A long day with the house. We drove out early and then spent an hour with GL trying to sort out the electric. At one point GL rang one of the companies for guidance on one of the many forms.

The helpline said we needed to enclose a written declaration that we had indeed bought the house - in lieu of a sort of Land Registry certificate to that effect. So JL laboriously wrote out the declaration and I signed it - on this day, in this district, so and so born of somewhere with a DOB of such and such and a fiscal code of whatever (it is said in Italy that, 'Non si puo' neanche scoreggiare senza averne un codice fiscale - put it in Google translate) at the Notary's office of doo-dah on the said date indeed did purchase the house with the address of etc etc.

It was a piece of art but when we went to the local leccy office to make our submission the very helpful man simply laughed at the declaration and handed it back to us, got out some different forms and filled them in with us. Adding that he suggested we transfer to the new company that will be set up in the next month to replace many of the accounts - one of which we might actually hold - that are in existence now.

GL had predicted the declaration would not be needed but in Italy you have to go through these bureaucratic and procedural performances. Everyone knows it is crazy beyond belief but somehow it persists. The guy at the leccy shop was very funny about it all until he launched into an anti-EU tirade which, of course, had its points of merit.

Then to insurance office where the two house policies were ready. There too, there had been some confusion because my sainted codice fiscale seemed to be saying on the insurance computer system that I must be a woman. Signature after signature was required and I came away clutching two fat files.

But hey, the sun was shining and we walked the bounds - or some of them - and admired Yuma's stable. This well built and very sturdy stable block could become a studio down amongst the walnut trees and nuthatches.
