Building again
This is a new farm with about 6 hectares,
We have employed a young man Kondwani, and his wife (and a little boy) to run it. they are making great strides at taming this most neglected land which has seriously depleted soil.
WE have an extensive plan for it in terms of hedging, nitrogen fixing trees, sustainable farming with the most up to date information available.
We hope it will become another model farm, different in that we hope to have pigs and a cow, grow cassava, sweet potato, groundnuts, soya, pidgeon pea and a range of African plants,
Over time we want the farm to grow its own fertilizer and be self sustaining without external imputs.
We have just added our new pump for irrigation.
Malawi like everywhere else has its fair share of thieves so we have decided to build two houses here for workers, or maybe rent one to a teacher from the school next door, to subsidise the running costs.
The pic shows part of the 24000 bricks and the new water tank for construction, just being completed. Hoping to have six bricklayers tomorrow!!
