A postcard from Welsh Wales!

(Living in Somerset, with Wells and Wales both on our doorstep, people always say Welsh Wales so as to avoid confusion. Or is that just me?!)

Complete change of plans for today. With a deterioration in the weather, and my lurgy, and having discovered that the road to the gardens we intended to visit was closed, we abandoned our plans for the day and decided to head home instead, taking the scenic route through Wales.

En route we stopped off in Monmouth, birthplace of Henry V and former home of Charles Stewart Rolls, to track down some Welsh Cakes and for a look at the Monnow Bridge, built in 1270 as a town defence, the only surviving medieval bridge in Britain with the gate tower standing on the bridge.

From Monmouth we drove down the River Wye Valley, through low cloud, to Tintern Abbey for a quick pit stop, then over the Severn Bridge and home...
