Redundent Glass
This is a customer's broken UV filter on a Nikon 7100. It shattered from a 3 foot drop, a drop the lens would probably have survived. I have never really understood why you would use more optical interference and a potential lens killer to "protect" your glass. The glass fragments alone could kill your zoom and possibly the sensor. Then the fact that no glass is perfect, so why add problems to your image? Finally, when (unfortunately not "if") I drop my lens, I am more worried about misalignment of the elements (internal glass) than the surface lens. I might be wrong - buy a filter.
We sold another UV filter for £35.
