Ophelia
What a day !
She woke us around one am, rising winds and thrashing trees. A fitful night then and finally woke around nine to find the power was already out.
It was a strange day of waiting and watching from the window at horribly contorted trees. Tried to keep in touch with family and friends but before midday the network was down too ...
We thought the storm had peaked by mid afternoon and started to subside so ventured out for a look at the coast.
Fallen trees everywhere but mostly already tidied up and the roads were mostly clear, although Tragumna village was cut off.
The sea was awesome. I've never seen such huge waves. These phone shots don't do it justice at all. From beach level it looked like a wall of water piling in. From the cliff we could see waves breaking over the top of the headland which is really high. It was magnificent and terrifying.
We got home realising the storm wasn't subsiding at all, and spent an evening by candlelight listening to the wind roar.
It eventually died down in the early hours .
