Another Statue
Passing along the Embankmemt in London today I took a moment to pause in front of one of my favourite statues , which sits in the Victoria Gardens there ( to follow on the theme from yesterday).
This is the memorial to the composer Sir Arthur Sullivan and beside the woman weeping there are four lines from “The Yeoman of the Guard” , written by Sullivans great collaborator, WS Gilbert.
They are movingly appropriate ;
Is life a boon?
If so, it must befall
That Death, whene'er he call,
Must call too soon.....
