Caterpillar

Plenty of action on the safari today, but nothing was really happening, it was all a bit static in the images. I came across another snake which did liven things up a bit, but it was the same species that I have already blipped three times in recent months. Unless it gives me something very special, the brown snake is not getting on again.

I learned a few things, like I do pretty much everyday, not just about photography but safari life in general. Today's lesson was in ant whispering. I already found out that if you wiggle your fingers in front of a large moving ant, you can sometimes persuade it to stop. I have had a dozen ants stopped in front of me at times. The technique does not always work, but worth a try if you are doing ants.

Today I was photographing a herd of small ants, thousands of them on the march, the fence was caked in places. In constant motion and poor light, it was impossible to capture a sharp shot and no amount of finger waggling was going to stop them. Then, I accidentally bumped the camera lightly against the bamboo fence and blow me down, every ant on the fence stopped moving for about six seconds. Well that one is worth remembering.

So today I have started the series with two ant tips to start the ball rolling. I will attempt to learn something everyday and write it here. If I fail and have to skip a day or two then that is just too bad, don't give me a hard time and I will do my best.

I had a surprise phone call half an hour ago. Esta rang me up to wish me happy birthday! Ho wonderfully thoughtful was that. Great surprise Esta, thank you very much.

Today's caterpillar blip is unidentified, but I though it looked interesting and was worth a blip, seeing as my ant shots didn't pan out. I think this is more interesting than a mess of ants on your screen anyway, I'm sure you will probably agree. Plus you get a free baby caterpillar with the blip, didn't spot that until I got home.

Check this out by Hillyblips, a proper caterpillar shot!
