While Mrs Beeton wrote 'the smell of the plant is considered offensive' and John Evelyn (whose diaries we plodded through for O level English!) noted 'We absolutely forbid it entrance into our Salleting (salad)...' the Anglo Saxons popped it in with their potherbs when the Romans brought it with them.

This gloriously pink tinged bulb is locally grown and yes the grower is Italian. and today popped in along with my duck curry potherbs!
