~Golden Barrel Cactus~
~Sundown Textures~
I photographed this barrel cactus using the last light of day. I amazes me how the late afternoon lighting brings out all the textures and prickliness of this desert plant. This particular cactus is about 20 inches across and 14 inches tall. Not the type of thing one would want to fall onto while trudging through the desert. Though if you run out of water while trekking in this arid region this plant can be a lifesaver. With a good, sharp and long knife and a bit of work I could probably get a half gallon of water out of it. It wouldn't be the tastiest drink you ever had, but it sure would be the most satisfying!
Thanks for looking in on TucsonJim ;o)
