Claydon House

Decided to take a trip out today to make the most of the sunshine, so off to Claydon House, about 25 miles away - https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/claydon

Home to the Verney family with their connections with the English Civil War, in 1750, Ralph Verney set about building an extension to outstrip in grandeur his neighbours.  He went bankrupt and went abroad to hide from his debtors.  When he died, his niece inherited his estate and she restored the finances in a year.

The interior is amazing, with work on the high ceilings undertaken by Luke LIghtfoot (no blips allowed!).  Further history, in 1875 Sir Harry Verney married Florence Nightingale's sister, Parthenope, and she was a regular visitor to Claydon over the succeeding years.

The gardens are also a delight and you can spend a very enthralling three hours or so exploring the house and walking the grounds
