Sword in the Stone
For a fleeting moment, as I pulled on the sword, I thought I might become the King of England... but actually it turns out that the Arthurian legend was corrupted: Originally the stone's inscription read 'Wherever men find this Stone is the kingdom of the Scots' - it was altered by English writers to 'Whoso pulleth this sword out of this stone and anvil is rightwise king born of all England'. Suddenly I was in Scotland, and I had that 'when Burnham Wood shall come to Dunsinane' feeling so fled before I found myself in brutal battle.
