My first millipede...

I've been trying to photograph centipedes but with no luck - they are too fast! Their myriapod ('many-legged') cousins, the millipedes, move much more sedately, like little tube trains. This is. I think, one of Britain's largest millipede species, the Striped Millipede, Ommatoiulus sabulosus. It is readily identified by the two ginger stripes down the back. This one was about 3cm long and was grazing happily a metre up a sycamore trunk (a common behaviour for this species). The photo was taken on my phone camera, using my head torch to give enough light to focus, then using the phone camera flash. It isn't a great photo but at least it is mostly in focus!
