French primary schools
The lads asked me about my primary school over lunch. I said it was probably very similar to theirs. They have a load of books to carry to and fro; I do not remember loads of books. They call their teachers by their first name; that was a no no for us. They have been off school for a day because of a teacher strike. Today they had training in case of a terrorist attack; hiding under tables reminded me of UK anti-nuclear civil defence nonsense in the 1950s. They were amazed that we had outside toilets. I suspect the real advance that has been made over 60 plus years is that they are in classes of 24; we were 48, all drilled to deal with the 11 plus exam.
