Pineapple experiment

This pineapple top was an ornament on a fruit platter for an event at a neighbour's office. It was going to be discarded so I took it to try my hand at growing a pineapple. I have a sunny window and looked up what to do on the Internet. There seems to be two schools of thought. First, trim and soak in water for a week or two to grow some roots, then pot in some soil. Or, second, skip the soak and go straight for the dirt. I did the former and planted it this morning as you can see in the before and after photos. Now I have only to wait two or three years for the fruit...
