After several hours of heavy rain the lower part of the village is awash with fast flowing streams on all the paths and roads. Arnside Knott has no streams flowing down its slopes. It is a limestone hill full of crevasses so rain sinks into its upper slopes and gushes out near sea level in lots of unlikely places.
