NO wonder it snapped.

I slipped, stumbled toward the kitchen door and grabbed the handle; behold the result.
Local B&Q had none, but tracked one to Carlisle.
I, simultaneously, didn't fancy a run to Carlisle for a single item, and  remembered a place in town which might have one.
They did - BUT * ~ *~ * ~ *
It was both too fat & too short.
Got local garage to give it a slimming course, courtesy of grinding wheel and effectively increased its length by dint of removing a plastic insert from each handle. Sorted.
