If you can't beat them...

Solace Day 3.

This is typical of the sort of place we choose to moor for the night.  Peace and tranquillity with the possibilities of wildlife.  The previous evening using the bat detector and torches we had watched Daubenton's Bats hunting low over the canal.  Daubenton's are showing a marked increase in numbers since 1999.

Sunday 24th

Another fine day. The first Heron of our trip was spotted out in a stubble fields. One thing very noticeable to me with my rural/agricultural background is how seriously big the fields are down here. Lots of hedges must have been lost creating them. Bales of straw were standing in the fields and the round bales )not stacked) were showing signs of deteriorating. It hasn't been good weather for harvest this year.

The flight of 11 Atherstone locks were ahead of us. Just my idea of a good time. However as it was going to be late when we finished the flight we moored between 9 & 10 (or should that be 10 & 9 as we started at 11).
