What a castle
We have been to Dover Castle, overlooking the port of Dover in the county of Kent, UK.
Lots to see both above and below ground.
Above ground is the magnificent Henry II castle and associated military buildings. There is also a Roman lighthouse and a restored church.
Below grounds the tunnels which were excavated for military purposes over many years. Their greatest test was to provide a safe command centre for the Dunkirk evacuation. There is a very comprehensive presentation of the events of the evacuation which one views on the way through the tunnels, very realistic and thought provoking.
Well worth a visit, it is now an English Heritage property.
