Deal Castle

Deal is a small town big on castles - it has 2 castles- Deal Castle (shown) and Walmer Castle. It used to have 3 castles but Sandown castle came to a sticky end in the sea.
Deal Castle in classic "Tudor rose" style was built in 1539 by Henry VIII as part of his plans to protect the southeast of England but also the downs, a sheltered shipping area just off the coast.
