Surfers Paradise, Gold coast, Australia
A little treat for us today - we went whale watching! The migrating season is from June - October (mid/end) so we thought it best to catch them before next year and Gold coast is supposed to be one of the best places to see whales before they head to Antarctica. We had a lovely river cruise, showing the Gold coast skyline before heading into the choppy sea (and I mean choppy sea!!). The crew even recommended anyone that got sea sick or motion sickness to take a tablet. I was very worried, however even though it went up and down a lot just heading out to the sea, it wasn't too bad after that and thankfully no one was sick! As it was in the wild, nothing was guaranteed. We saw spouts of water from different directions (none very close unfortunately) but my favourite moment was when we saw a mother and calf humpback whale and they were splashing their tails out the water - aparantly the mother was training it's calf. Amazing. It was fantastic to see these beautiful creatures in the wild. The boat tour took up a good part of the day, 3 hours and after that we got lunch and had a look around the markets. We then spent the evening by the beach for our last night here.
