The Unicorn Tapestries
No I haven't hopped across the pond to the cloisters in NYC where the original 16th C unicorn tapestries ( "the Hunt of the Unicorn") are that we love. Imagine my surprise when we got to Stirling Castle today to find these recreations adorning the Queen's room.... the queen being Mary of Guise, wife of James V, parents of Mary Queen of Scots. The palace has been refurbished with bright paint and these exquisite works of art that took 18 weavers from all over the world 13 years to make ( 2002-2015) 4 were woven here, 3 in England at West Dean Taoestry studio. I loved them, The are richer and more modern looking than the ones at the cloisters. ( If you want more, google Stirling tapestries). The day wasn't bad either... a stop at Loch Lomond before ... all with blue sky and sunshine. H has a relative from Stirling who left Scotland for Canada in 1860.. a Sea captain and wife...a few generations back from his mother. Supposedly he is also related the the Macgregor clan ( Rob Roy) We just might have to find out more. But had to get one photo of the view from Stirling Castle ( extra) .....
Got to Edinburgh for our tour farewell dinner.
For fun I took a poll today about Outlander . Of our group of 28, incl guide) 11 people had at Least seen one tv episode... 2 of those have read the whole series, 15 people have heard of Outlander but not read or seen anything. ( some want to now) And one single guy had no clue what it might be.
It's not for everyone. :-)
The other extra the goodbye view to Edinburgh from the restaurant... statue is St Andrew in the square.
